History
RYC was founded about 1880 on the west bank of the river Clwyd in Rhyl’s west end. At that time Rhyl was a vibrant holiday resort with extensive ship building facilities both here and up stream at Rhuddlan. When ships sailed up the river from Rhyl to Rhuddlan the newly built railway was moved out of the way by means of an opening bridge. Hence railway timetables were scheduled around the times of the tides. Rhyl Yacht Club holds club cruises several times a year allowing members to sail in company. These cruises vary in distance from local cruises to Rhos on Sea, Conwy etc and longer distance to the Isle of Man. They allow less experienced members to call upon the support of more experienced members as they begin to learn the skills needed to sail safely at sea. Individually members sail further afield visiting Ireland, Scotland, France and even sailing down to the Mediterranean.
